Short-Track Veteran Jack Smith & MB Motorsports Reunite for Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE, WI (June 21, 2007) – Jack Smith embodies the essence of short-track racing – steely determination, hard work, an accomplished résumé and a fearless attitude. For those reasons, the Ohio native was once again tapped to drive the MB Motorsports’ #63 ride for this weekend’s “Toyota Tundra Milwaukee 200” at the Milwaukee Mile. Smith, one of the most accomplished drivers in recent history of the ASA Late Model Series who earned four wins and a potent 42% Top-10 average on last year’s tour, made his NCTS debut in May with the Missouri-based team and advanced nine spots and is looking forward to returning to one of NASCAR’s three elite divisions.
“It feels like we should only race a track like Milwaukee on a Saturday night because it’s classic short-track racing,” joked Smith. “I cut my teeth on bullrings and the Mile is bigger but because it is flat, protecting that bottom groove and conserving your brakes and equipment are key points. If you overrun a corner here, you will get shuffled back in a hurry. I am very grateful to Mike Mittler, Mittler Brothers Machine & Tool, Cooper Bussman, Dave Porter Truck Sales and the entire MB Motorsports’ team for another opportunity to drive the #63 truck. I have worked hard to reach this level of competition and am thankful that they have helped me achieve my goal. We had a strong debut at Mansfield last month but hope to improve on our performance this weekend.”
“We are pleased to have Jack back in the seat of the #63 Ford F-150,” added team owner Mike Mittler. “On tracks such as Milwaukee, experience and attitude are everything so it’s great to have a veteran racer who doesn’t get intimidated behind the wheel. It will be Jack’s first NCTS attempt at this particular track but he has made a lot of laps in late models and ASA both at Milwaukee and on tracks similar. Short-tracks can be intimidating but he has the determination and will to fight through bumps in the road so we are confident in his abilities and looking forward to this weekend.”
Qualifying for the “Toyota Tundra Milwaukee 200” will take place on Friday, June 22nd at 5:30 p.m. CDT and trucks will be impounded until the start of the race that evening at 8:00 p.m. CDT. Live televised race coverage of the 200 lap event will be provided by SPEED with MRN and Sirius Satellite Radio also broadcasting via the airwaves.
